The Pergamon ranks right up with the British Museum and the Louvre as one of the world's premier museums. The unfortunate thing about all of these is they are so large that a visit can be an intimidating experience. As other viewers have written, the audioguide has a highlights tour that is a good way to get around this. The... more

I went to this museum in the afternoon at 4 pm. The museum closes at 6 pm. I was not exactly pressed for time but I still killed the 2 hour easy in this museum. Admission includes an audio guide rental. Make sure you get one before you go. Pergamon altar sits right at the first room. I was overtaken... more

Based on the fab reviews of the Pergamon on here, we shortlisted it for our 2 day trip to Berlin. Whilst it was interesting enough, I can't say I understand the level of appreciation that people have expressed, and would recommend it for those especially interested in this area or era, or those with limited options on a rainy day.... more

Wow. As a museum professional who travels when possible, I've been to my share of museums. The collection at the Pergamon Museum is awesome, in the traditional sense of the word. The Ishtar Gate and the Pergamon Altar were amazing. Great collection of Islamic art as well - a definite must-see for people visiting Berlin! more

The Pergamon Museum is one of the best attractions in Berlin, probably the best museum on Museum Island. It features a wide variety of archaeological treasures from around the world, but the two truly exceptional ones are the Altar of Zeus from Pergamon, Turkey, and the Ishtar Gate from Babylon. The Pergamon Altar is both impressively huge and well-preserved, and... more

It really blew my mind. Again, get the Audio tour in the entrance and pick the highlights tour, which gets you in half an hour around the 4 most important exhibits they have. If you fancy elaborating then pick individual items to hear about. I did the Highlights tour and then exhausted my time there to hear about individual pieces... more

The Pergamon altar is just huge, as is the Ishtar Gate, the two exhibits this museum is famous for. They are a must-see in Berlin, and world famous. The whole set up in the museum is very, very well done. One thing I found very strange however, given that this is a major tourist attraction, is that they do not... more

Be warned : use your time when you go to the Pergamon museum! Spending about 3 hours there, is no problem at all. It is situated on the extraordinary Museuminsel in Berlin Mitte, not far from Unter den Linden. The building itself is very impressive, and reminds of an ancient temple. The masterpiece is ofcourse the enormous Pergamon-altar (in fact... more
