One of the best things we did in Switzerland. We took the train to Montreux, then the No. 1 bus to the castle. Catch the bus right across the street from the train station...go down the stairs and cross the street to the bus stop. It's a little confusing. I would recommend renting the audio tour Ipod. Get the train to Montreaux and then walk along the edge of the lake to Chillon (about 45 minutes easy stroll) or, in the summer, get the boat that drops you at the side of the castle. A huge and impressive structure set right on the water with the best view of the castle from out on the lake. The self guided tour was thorough taking in a number of medieval rooms including a crypt, prison and a large hall with an armoury collection.
