For those camping at the Park, beware of the cyclists, as in you can't swing a dead cat without hitting one. Theyre everywhere and anywhere. Yes cyclists, i acknowledge youre right to exist and i'm even willing to share the road with you. All I'm asking is that you dont plow me over when my wife and i decide to... more

I've wanted to see this place for years so when I was 150 miles from there on vacation I decided to go. It cost $4.00 to enter. It is well worth it. You can do the 15 mile drive through and get out many places and take pictures or just hike and explore. There are many campsites in the park.... more

We went over the July 4th Holiday. We got there early and stayed the first night at the Holiday Inn Express. There 2br/2bth suite is extremely spacious with sm Frig and Microwave. $135/nt! Great nights rest before the big Adventure. We stayed 3 nights in the park in the Lighthouse Cabin. They have a ttl of three cabins. These are... more

Words can not do justice to how beautiful this canyon is. In the middle of a bunch of Texas farm land the canyon appears of of nowhere and is astonishingly beautiful. There were very few people visiting when we went and we were able to drive slowly around the rim, hike a little, and pull over to enjoy the views.... more

We just had the pleasure of touring the Palo Duro State Park in Canyon, Texas, which is 30 minutes from Amarillo. It was awesome! We learned about the park when we stopped at a welcome center in Amarillo. After riding through the park, we wondered why we had never heard anything about it since it is spectacular! I would recommend... more

Stayed at the Cow Camp Cabins in the Park. The cabins are historic structures built in the 1930's by the Civillion Conservation Corps. They have been updated during the nineties and are a good substitute for a tent in the park. They don't have bathrooms and the nearest restrooms are about 200 yards away. We were in a group of... more

I have lived in West Texas my entire life and have never been to see Palo Duro Canyon or the wonderful musical drama of "Texas". It was truly a wonderful play and the canyon is absolutely gorgeous. It was very peaceful and relaxing down in the campsite. The steak dinner, provided by The Big Texan, was delicious and satisfying. My... more

This is a little known yet awesome canyon. The only way to really experience its beauty and history is to take a jeep tour at Elkins Ranch. (Would recommend the full tour as it takes you into the bottom of the canyon). Local drivers love their canyong and seem to know every plant, boulder and animal around there. The terrain... more

Last summer, my son and I took our canyon vacation. First stop was Palo Duro, then on to the Grand Canyon, and Oak Creek in Sedona (another must do). We loved Palo Duro! It was the highlight of our trip. We enjoyed it much more than the Grand Canyon, which is awesome, but less accessible. Beautiful and easy to hike... more

I visited May 27, 2006, which was Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. The park looked like it was well-visited but not overcrowded. I drove the road through the park, which provided good views of the colored rock on both sides of the canyon. People who have visited the Grand Canyon or the canyons in Utah may be disappointed with Palo... more
