We are just back from a 3 night stay at this hotel and let me tell you we travel quite a bit and this is one of the best and nicests hotels we have ever stayed at. The food is amazing for North American standards (let alone DR standards) and the breakfast is very good with great variety and also... more
So to be honest, we didn't fall in love with Santo Domingo, but we DID love the Sofitel Nicolas de Ovando! We stayed here for a long weekend trip to DR, and we are ever so glad we chose this hotel. The hotel is beautiful -- it was originally a governor's mansion and has been restored with amazing style. The... more
Drove in from Punta Cana for a 3 night stay. There wasn't any valet parking, though there is a parking lot reserved for hotel guests directly off the street - just keep an eye out for the chickens and roosters that frequent the parking lot! Check in was without any problems - and we loved the cool towels and fruit... more
First of all, Santo Domingo is not really a tourist destination. It is a very, very poor city and be warned women: you will get harassed. hotel was really pretty, but room 3030 is next to the dish-washing room. After a party that ended at midnight, we had employees yelling and singing right outside our room. The front desk was... more
From the cool moist towel at check in to the turn down service with cookies, this is a place to be pampered with the tremendous plus of being in the very heart of the Zona Colonial. You do not even have to walk out the door to be immersed in history, but if you do, there are historic "firsts" in... more
Actually booked a room at the Sofitel Frances but it was overbooked and I got moved to Nicolas de Ovando. I had no problem wih this as Nicols de Ovando is supposed to be the more upscale of the 2 and is only a few blocks away. Staff was as friendly and helpful as could be though our room did... more
Beautiful hotel. We checked in late - - 11pm and had no problems whatsoever. The room was beautiful - - bed was comfortable, gorgeous marble bathroom, wonderful view from the window. The hotel grounds are stunning - - plants and paths and communal areas are kept beautifully. There is a reading area with books and lounging areas. The pool is... more
My husband I just got back from a fabulous weekend at this hotel in Santo Domingo.Although the rate per night was US $139.00 , with taxes it came to $179.00, still a bargain.I speak very little Spanish and my husband none. Not a problem! The reception and concierge spoke English fluently and were very helpful with all our questions. Check in... more
I stayed in this hotel for three nights in July 2006. The hotel is really beautiful. It is located in the historic district and is within walking distance of all the main attractions in Santo Domingo. It was previously the Spanish governor's residence and has been sensitively and elegantly transformed into a hotel. The rooms are simple and uncluttered (if... more
