We stayed at this lovely lake district hotel for three nights with our two young children. We had a brilliant family suite with lots of space for everyone and a separate sleeping area for the children. We found everyone really welcoming. The kids had high tea everyday and then we were able to have dinner without them as they had... more

Most reviewers give this hotel 5 stars, so why am I only giving it three stars? First the positives - I can confirm that the rooms are great, the beds very comfortable and the service is really excellent, the staff are experienced and friendly and really want to look after you. It's a well-run small hotel and the prices are... more

I have just returned from 4 nights at the Rothay Manor hotel. The staff were the most welcoming, friendly staff I have experienced in years and nothing was too much trouble. My mother, being disabled in a wheelchair had required proper, disabled facilities in the bathroom and at Rothay Manor we stayed in the Loughrigg Suite, a 2 bedroomed bungalow... more

As with the last two reviews, we stayed in the Loughrigg suite at the Rothay Manor this summer. The suite is a bit dated but it is still a very good layout for a family with young children (two large bedrooms, a large sitting room and 1.5 bathrooms + you can make plenty of noise without disturbing anyone). The location... more

We stayed at Rothay Manor for 2 nights in the Loughrigg Suite. This suite is in a separate building across the car park. While the suite was very spacious, it is of 70's or early 80's vintage, is outdated and smelled like a bad Holiday Inn. (It's a bad sign when you see a Glade air freshener on the shelf... more

The Rothay Manor is a wonderful hotel in a beautiful setting. A bit pricey, but a classic case of getting what you pay for. We did not see any other place in the area that we would have preferred to stay at, but we saw a huge number that made us thankful to be where we were. We stayed 4... more

I stayed here with my wife and 1 yr old daughter for a long weekend and its hard to think of any criticisms. Staff were all really helpful and happy to sort out any specific requests (e.g. well cooked veg for my daughter to eat). The lounges are very relaxing and a great place to enjoy the afternoon tea. Room... more

Left the kids at home & thoroughly enjoyed the break to recharge. We stayed for 2 nights 25/26 Nov 06 in a Superior room - these are all at the front on the 1st floor, with balconies. The hotel had great character dating back to 1825. Excellent location - easy to walk into the centre of Ambleside and quick to... more

We have just returned from an excellent 2 night break which we took to" re-charge our batteries "for the rest of the summer season. We are in the tourist industry and needed a break to help us unwind and we could not have picked a better place. It is just set back from the road but so peaceful and relaxing in the... more

Please don't tell everyone about this jewel in the Lake District or we may never be able to get a room again! We have stayed so many times we have probably sampled all of the rooms. Julia and rest of the staff will give a warm welcome. Good food and very comfortable. more
