Hotel location was fantastic- local shops and restaurants were plentiful and right near Central Park and the Subway. However, the actual hotel was quite disappointing. It is a hostel, which I was aware of but the bathroom did not have a separate toilet, so if you wanted to just brush your teeth or go to the toilet you had to... more

The taxi cab driver reluctantly dropped me off in front of Columbus Studios hostel on W. 83rd. I check in at the front desk since I made reservations 2 weeks prior to stay. The (unprofessional & unfriendly) young lady at the front desk tells me they're all booked, no beds are available. I reminded her that I made reservations on... more

Booked here same day last minute before leaving to NYC. I arrived late (it's about a 10 minute walk from the 1/2/3 subway), around 12:30. It was cash only, had to use the ATM onsite but was pleasantly surprised that the ATM fee was only 1.75. Was $27 including tax. Linens and towels were already in the bed. Was given... more

It's honestly not that bad. My best friend and I went to NYC for 8 nights and we made it out alright. If you're looking for a place to store you luggage and sleep/shower, this place is so cheap and in a great location! Some bad things: It does have mice/rats, so don't be surprised if you see a couple.... more

I stayed at Columbus with my boyfriend for a bed and a place to store our belongings while I was out there walking, and it totally fulfilled our needs. Our room had a double bed and nothing else. The location is great, right next to Central Park and a metro station. The room was clean as were the linens. I... more

We traveled to NYC over Spring Break and were on a MAJOR budget for accomodations. We have stayed in hostels overseas so decided to give it a try. I looked at a lot of different hostels in the city and read reviews on tripAdvisor, and finally decided on Columbus Studios for several reasons. First, its location-Upper West Side, close to... more

I will never recomend this hostel to noone! Feel just like the personal there dont want to work there! Paid for 6 night but after one night I left, there was no refund of the money I paid! So BAD! Look at the pictures you will see how the restrooms were like! Columbus Studios Hostel, New York City, is the... more

I read the Tripadvisor reviews after I had booked my trip. I noticed that other reviewers reported that their booked rooms were not available when they arrived. I particularly wanted to stay in a single room. I telephoned the hotel, and was told that I could be in a room with '4, 6 or 8 people'. I rang my booking... more

DO NOT STAY HERE. I went to New York for a long weekend with my friend, and decided to stay at Columbus Studios. BAD IDEA. We weren’t expecting anything fancy/nice at all, just a place to stay. We had no idea what we were getting into. We checked in and the girl at the counter gave us our keys, but... more

Booked a stay in columbus for 5 days. They first tried to put us in a run down boarding house next door. where we found bags of white powder in the bathroom. Then once we strongly complained we were moved back into the original building. On the last night we heard scratching in the middle of the night. To my... more
