The Imperial Hotel has a long history as desireable address in Tokyo, and the proximity to the imperial grounds and the Ginza shopping/dining district are a major plus. The hotel is much more of a traditional luxury hotel, and can seem a bit dated for business travelers looking for modern conveniences as opposed to traditional luxury.
The rooms are a decent size, and the views from the Tower can be fantastic (see attached pics). That being said, the main building rooms have been renovated and have more updated amenities. It is also a bit of a procedure to get from the main building lobby up to the tower rooms, nothing that will cause you to break a sweat but still slightly inconvenient.
The Imperial is great if you want to explore the parks around the Imperial grounds, and also excellent if you are looking to do some shopping, dining or just people-watching in Ginza. It's also fairly easy to get to the underground from the Imperial.
I would recommend the Imperial for anyone looking for a bit of a luxury get-away, probably more to impress your spouse/date/etc. It's not bad for a business trip either, but in that case I would prefer the ANA Intercontinental.
