My friend and I were walking down the beach from the other hotel when we were staying at when a Cayena employee, as he identified himself, Juan Carlos came up to us with an offer. He asked if we were interested in seeing this NEW hotel that was opened last year and take a tour; if we liked it we would get a 50% off the price for booking direct. I was very hesitant at first and asked if it was a timeshare presentation, he said no. Then my friend asked why were they doing that promotion, he said because occupancy was low and that they are trying to promote the resort; 5 stars he said and the tour would take about 45mins.

Ok, so we decided it was just 5 mins away and another couple staying at the Bahia were also coming along. Before we left I told them we needed to get back to our hotel by 11:00 and the other couple also said they had a snorkeling tour at 11:45 that needed to return for as well.

Juan Carlos then delivered us to the hotel. We asked if he was staying with us and if a boat would be available to take us back. He said yes there are 3 boats. Ok, so we went to reception, filled out a form then a skeevy guy took us upstairs to the bar/restaurant and started the sales banter. I stopped him and asked when we would be taking a tour of the grounds since we wanted to see the hotel and asked again if it was a timeshare presentation. He said no and went on to ask questions about how many weeks we vacation etc. At this point I am getting annoyed as I see where it is leading and then we emphasize that time was of an essence and he was wasting it with those questions; we wanted the tour of the property we were promised. He also pulled out an interval book and that is when I knew it was a time share presentation and told him we were not interested.

When he realised that we wanted out he got very upset and asked us to write down on a paper that we had to leave. That took all of 35mins!! Time to leave and there is no boat, we were told it is on it's way. An hour later no boat to take us back and the other couple had finished their sales pitch and joined us to wait. I was very upset at this time as the employees pretended to be calling the captain of the boat. So I made my way back to reception to talk with the guy who took our info, he said he calls the boat and we should wait. Well I had to raise my voice to get anything done, which I was even madder for. They wanted to get me away from reception since other guests started chiming in about their complaints !! In order to get me to move they said the boat was coming soon.. so I started to make a scene on the beach when there was no boat, as they kept lying to us for an hour and a half! The other couple missed their tour as well. Eventually fed up of me one of the employees, walked up the beach and asked another company with a boat to take us back.

We never got our tour of the hotel! I did manage to get some exterior photos and it looks ok, 3 star at best. I was just mad I got duped, wasted a morning with con sales men and staff that lied!!! I would never want to stay at this hotel with bad business practices such as what happened to me and the three other people I was with!

We paid $200 to change our flight & leave Cayena Beach Club 3 days early. Although the grounds are beautiful, nothing could make up for the fair service. We were eaten alive by bed bugs/mites. We went on an ATV tour with Adventure Extreme...recomended by the Staff at Cayena Beach Club. During the ATV tour, we were harrassed by the local peddlars, our friends had their sun glasses stolen & I was bitten by a dog. You couldn't pay me enough to come back. The staff is not helpful & push you to buy a timeshare the entire time you are there. Everyone always has their hand out but no one ever has any change for a $20, $10 or $5...heaven forbid you bring larger bills, & forget about Travellers Cheques.

“Wedding Trip”

Cayena Beach Club

We just returned from our trip on May 3, 2008 from the Cayenna Beach Club. We went to the resort to have a romantic elopement style wedding. The main LTI property staff, Sylvie coordinated our wedding and it was wonderful. She did a fantastic job. They day we arrived we met with her that afternoon and she had all the finer details lined out and we only had to make minor choices. These choices were made easy as she had sample photos to review. She also worked on our schedule. Within minutes the event was finalized and we were off to have some fun. She made me feel comfortable that everything would go off without a problem. The spa treatment that came with our wedding package was wonderful. All the staff at the Metamorphis spa were friendly courteous and it was such a relaxing atmosphere. The massage therapists were very attentive and professional. The day of the wedding one of the ladies spent a great deal of time on my pedicure, manicure and hair. When I left the spa I felt totally ready for the big moment. There was no stress with the wedding preparations or ceremony. The ceremony was on the beach and was the setting that I had invisioned in my mind for so long. The band that came played native music and they were so fun, happy and added so much to the ceremony. The ceremony was the intimate but yet formal affair that I had wanted.

Now for the review of the resort. Cayena was beautiful, we had a great room which the view from the patio was like a postcard. We could hear the ocean at night. Cayena was private and small and completely relaxing. The restaurant in Cayenna was wonderful with a staff that could produce amazing food. Everyone on staff at the bar and restaurant were concerned about each guest and you truly felt like a guest. Antonia, Newton, Lenora and Pascel quickly learned what you liked and provided those options daily. They were an amazing team. The lunch options were always fresh presented so well and the taste heavenly. We could not decide which of the two meals were our favorite as breakfast had its on special qualities also.

Being able to access LTI property was nice so that we could go to the bars or restaurants on that side. The sea food restaurant was our favorite. The selections were fresh and grilled to perfection. The Trattoria served pizza that was fresh made to order and just the right size for one person.

The internation buffet had so many choices and everthing that we had was great and it allowed much experimentation with different foods that we can not get a home. All the staff were more than happy to answer any questions that you had on food names, preparations or just about the resort. I felt as if everyone liked working there and they were sharing their home with us.

We also did the zip line excursion and the office staff were very helpful in booking that trip and it was fun. However, it was very strenuous and not for those afraid of heights. The tour guide was very informative on the trip and showed us markets, cocoa plantations, fruits and more.

Neither of us were sick from anything that we ate or drank during this trip. Overall I would say this trip was perfect for us and we cannot wait to go back. This is definitely a place that we would return to. We also want to thank everyone for making our wedding and honeymoon such a special time.

We did experience one negative and that was the cost of the photographs. They were very expensive and did not follow the prices posted on the website. However, we were there one full week and that is the only negative that we had.

“Overall great”

Cayena Beach Club

Just returned from a week at Cayena Beach Resort. Absolutely LOVED the beach. The resort is next to the hotel and it gave the chance to sit quietly or go to the hotel beach and join in the activities. The pools and grounds are gorgeous and the staff is friendly. The room was average but it was spacious with alot of storage areas. The drinks were excellent and by no means watered down. The food was less than average and the flies were too many for me. In fact I lost several pounds that week. We did two excursions. The Sanoa Island trip was OK but I wouldn't do it again. (The Cayena beach was just as nice). The bus ride is 1 1/2 hrs. long each way (with no bathroom) and the catamaran ride was also 1 1/2 hours long. Everyone was very friendly but it was REALLY hot on the boat. The island had some neat snorkling opportunites so if you have equipment...bring it. The speed boat ride on the way back was alot of fun and they stop so you can swim and see huge red star fish. Getting back on the boat is very tricky. The ladder rungs are round and not flat so it's very hard to get a good grip with your hands or feet. In fact, one man fell into the boat and got a good cut above his eye. We also took a monster truck ride with Funny Monster Truck company. We set it up at Cayena. This was alot of fun and I would do it again. It is however VERY bumpy...which is part of the fun. If you do it, bring something like bags of candy b/c you toss them off the truck to the kids who run by and wave. They loved it! We were also able to go into a school and see the students. That was a wonderful opportunity. Overall the vacation was what I wanted...lots of beach and R&R and a couple of excursions to see what daily life is like in the D.R. If it wasn't for the food and flies, I would go back again.

“WONDERFUL! Can't wait to return!!”

OK, Prior to our departure I made the mistake of reading the reviews on this site for this hotel. There were only a small amount of reviews that were positive, it scared me pretty good. I just kept my fingers crossed that they were wrong- and they were!
My family and I traveled to the Dominican Republic the last week of April '08.

Before you leave, I would recommend contacting the hotel to set up transportation to the hotel from the airport. It's a bit of a ride, and you want to feel at ease.
The drive to the hotel is a little bumpy, the area is still being established and so the roads are rough.

Once at the hotel we were greeted by a receptionist and welcomed. We were given a cold drink and damp wash clothes to cool off.

Our room was a junior suite, it had two double beds, a sleeper sofa, and a large bath with jacuzzi tub. Our room was immaculate. It did not smell of mildew, the linens were clean, as was the bathroom & towels. The a/c worked, or if you wish, there were two sliding glass doors to open for a great cross-breeze.

The stairwells and walkways are terra-cotta tiles, when wet they are slippery. I would advise bringing skid proof shoes/flip flops.

We did get some rain. Mostly during the overnights, or late in the afternoon. We were very lucky! The weather is gorgeous. The sun is hot!! Bring lots of sunscreen, we have two children, I only brought one bottle for them with us. Next time, at least two bottles! You'll loose count on how many re-applications you do during the day.

From our room it was a short walk to the beach. The chaise lounges are all around, with a few large tiki-umbrellas for shade. Get your spot early. We would walk to the beach prior to breakfast to save our spots. The mini bar in the room has large water bottles, bring one with you- it's hot!
The sand on the beach reminded me of flour. It is fine, and smooth. Even though the sun is shining on it all day, it's not hot to walk on. There are no rocks. The shells are so small, you can barely see them. Each morning, the maintenance crew actually rakes the beach of the sea weed! Wonderful. The water is as blue as the sky, clear and beautiful.
Before leaving I bought some shovels and pails, they sell them in the gift shop, but it is cheaper to bring them from home. Bring books, and magazines to relax with on the beach or by the pool.

The Cayena club has a smaller pool. A small kiddie/wading pool, and a larger regular swimming pool. After spending several hours on the beach it was nice to take a dip and cool off in the pool. The larger, LTI Resort has a huge pool that is also very nice. Both pools have large sunning areas with chaise lounges and tables. Very inviting.

The grounds of both hotels are beautiful. Everything is well maintained.

There are several restaurants at the resort. There are sit downs and buffets available. It amazed us that no one was tipping the waitstaff- except us! Just because you are paying all-inclusive, doesn't include the servers. Bring LOTS of dollar bills, a tip and a smile work wonders! Tip them!!
At one of the buffets there was a sandwich toasting station, our children are very picky eaters. The man working the station was willing to grill us up some grilled cheese sandwiches for the kids. The pasta station guy would cook the spaghetti plain with butter and add some grated cheese...they are all accomodating and pleasant.
The food is not the best, but you will find something. We NEVER went hungry. The ice cream is delicious. The hot cocoa is delicious. Of course the fruits are great too. The crossants are great too, try toasting them & dipping them into the cocoa! YUM!

We never really left the compound. We walked a lot along the beach. We found little shops on the beach with all types of crafts, tshirts, jewelry, and rum. Each one wants you to buy from them. We were able to haggle some prices, but for the most part they are not trying to rip you off. Everyone is friendly and polite.

The LTI has a few gift shops. One of them has chips and candy, drinks, snacks and stuff. Great for bringing to the room for later. Or if you have extra room in your luggage, bring snacks with you! If you are traveling with children, bring a loaf of bread, jelly & peanut butter for sandwiches.

None of us got sick from the water, or any of the food. Just be aware of what you are eating. Obviously you don't want to eat any chicken that was sitting out. I wouldn't suggest eating anything outside of the hotel- unless it's at the Hard Rock, or at a different hotel. We brushed our teeth with the water from the faucet, we drank with ice cubes in our drinks. Drink the water bottles.

Our trip was amazing. We look forward to returning soon! Every staff person was friendly and chatty. We aren't Europeans, and were treated like family. I miss them all already.
