“Great time at the Majestic!”

Majestic Colonial Punta Cana

I have never posted a review before but feel I must this time. We are a family of 4 and just returned from a glorious week at the Majestic. Even our teens had a great time and were in awe of the beauty of the hotel (anyone with teens know that is a major endorsement)! The beach is beautiful - very wide sand area with lots of chairs and palapa's. The water is so crystal clear you can see your feet. The pool is huge and also has lots of chairs and shady areas. It is not very deep (maybe 4 feet) and I recommend that you bring some floats if you can. The swim-up bar was always the place to be for socializing but if you prefer a more quiet place that is easily found as well. The Animation team have games and activities at both the beach and pool areas if you want to participate - they do not push if you are not interested though. The staff at the resort is amazing - we never had a complaint and always felt well taken care of. In fact - they go above and beyond the normal and made us feel very special and important. AnnMarie is wonderful and did so much to help make our stay memorable - if we lived closer I would want to become a friend! We were concerned about the privacy/bathroom issue since we were traveling with 2 teenagers and we only had 1 room but when we arrived we were taken to the most beautiful suite with 1 king bed (in seperate bedroom) and 2 single beds had been brought in and set up in the HUGE living area. This was the perfect solution to keep us all together but not "too together"....... Lots of talk lately about the food and we had absolutely no problems at all. Never had a stomach issue - not even a growl! We ate in the steakhouse, seafood, Dominican, roomservice, buffet and the Japanese and enjoyed them all. My daughter doesn't eat meat so the made to order pasta at all the buffets were her favorite (and the cheescakes). My son LOVED the sushi. My husband loved the buffet so he could eat all he wanted. I loved the steakhouse and highly recommend the chateaubriand! There was always ice cream available for dessert along with a variety of cakes and fruits. I do not understand how so many people have such harsh words about the food - it is easy to find something you like and with so many options you can't possibly go hungry! The drinks were fine and the bartenders sure work hard. Try the Chocolate monkey (they also have a non alcoholic version for the under 18 crowd). We saw a few of the shows and they were entertaining - not Broadway but enjoyable. The casino was small and smoky but a fun way to blow a few dollars before the show. My son enjoyed the nightly movie in the sports bar a few times - it was a good place to meet up with his new friends. The resort seemed to have lots of younger children (under 10 years old) and lots of newlyweds but less families traveling with teens. We walked to the shopping plaza just outside the hotel and purchased all our souveniers there - it seemed like the prices were better than the resort shops. The Thursday night vendors who come to the hotel were much too pushy for my taste so we didn't stick around to browse. I think I covered everything but if you have any questions feel free to ask.........Remember to bring a ton of sun screen - lots of red bodies parading around the pool (mine included)!

Again a special thanks to AnnMarie for making our trip so wonderful!

“The "Real" Majestic Colonial Experience ***Read before you go!!!”

Majestic Colonial Punta Cana

Jun 25, 2008
3/3 found this review helpful

I just got back from the Majestic Colonial with my wife and wanted to let everyone know about the place before they go. I really appreciate all the helpful hints before I go somewhere. When you first get off the plane you will notice that they have a line to take your picture with tropically dressed women. You have no choice put to have them take your picture (so smile)since they will not let you in without it. This picture will be available for you to purchase when you leave to go home from Punta Cana. I bought it for $8 US when I left. Then you will have to wait on another line to pay for your tourist card which everyone must purchase for $10 US each person. You must have cash since they do not take anything else (A way for the country to make money). Make sure that you have your transportation booked to the hotel before you get there. We used Club Caribe through Expedia. They were awesome. The best I have ever used. They had a guy holding a sign with our last name on it. He then escorted us to our bus. Everything went really smoothly. The trip to the hotel is about 40 minutes. When we arrived at the hotel I did not realize that my wife had e-mailed the manager for a better room. I asked how our room was and told him I would give a big tip if he gave us a better room. He told us that we already got an amazing room and if we did not like it he would switch it. The front desk guy had to go in the manager’s office to get our room information since my wife e-mailed him. I tipped the front desk guy $20 anyway and he walked us to our room and let us know everything about the hotel. Before you go to the room you are brought over to the reservation desk for the two reservation only restaurants. Our room was about a 3/4 mile walk from the front desk (no joke). Keep in mind that this resort is huge. When you first walk in the room you will be blown away. There is a giant hot tub for two in every room next to the bed. There is a giant walk-in marble shower with two shower heads. There is no separate bathroom so I don't think this is a good place to go unless you are a couple. The toilet is next to the shower with a frosted 3/4 length door. Not much privacy! The room is huge with a balcony. They also have a free security safe which you must use. They will also deliver a cheese platter and Champagne right after you arrive the first day. The biggest necessities you need to bring are BUG SPRAY & Sunscreen with bug spray in it. This is so important because the climate of Punta Cana is very humid and there is mosquito’s everywhere. We had read this before we went so we had minimal problems. You have to be careful not to leave your door open or sliding door open on the balcony. They will come in and eat you alive all night. The food really is not that great. We tried all the restaurants. The buffet by the lobby is the best by far. It is the biggest buffet you will ever see. The desert is the best part. The Chinese restaurant is so-so. Do not eat the sushi. It is sitting out all day and you must be crazy to eat sushi in Punta Cana. The steak house was pretty good. We did not try the seafood one because we where already sick after the first day. The buffet by the beach is gross because there are flies everywhere. The only good think about this buffet was that it serves breakfast until 12:30 PM. Ordering drinks is a nightmare unless you want a beer or Majestic (Signature drink of the resort). The bar tenders and waiters do not speak English so they will look at you like you have 4 heads if you ask for anything else. That was our biggest disappointment of the trip. The beach is huge and we never had a problem getting a chair under a shady palapala. The hotel was 99% full when we stayed. The water was really warm and was easy to go into without cold shock. You must be prepared for topless woman because they are everywhere. The pool is huge. The only thing is there are never any shady chairs available by it unless you go later in the day. But who really goes to the Caribbean to sit by the pool. I would recommend this hotel to couples who want a relaxing vacation and are easy going. There are some hitches along the way but the good far out ways the bad. They also really appreciate tips. They go above and beyond and really appreciate it when you tip them.

Travel Hints:

You must pay $10 US / each person to get into the country (paid when you get off the plane)

Bring some sought of stomach medicine (Anti- Diarrhea). Everything is cooked with oil, and I mean everything

They do not speak good English at all so you might want to get a translation dictionary.

Bring at least 20 singles for tips.

E-mail the manager of the hotel before you arrive any you will get a better room. (Ask for 3rd floor with ocean view /pool view on the left side of the resort away from the construction) Right side of resort is undergoing MAJOR construction since they are building a couples only resort. This is also a must if you are celebrating an anniversary or honeymoon and they will give you a great surprise when you get to the hotel. I will not tell you what it is so you will be surprised.

“WONDERFUL RESORT”

Majestic Colonial Punta Cana

5 of 5 stars

Resort was fabulous. The amenities, the food and the staff were all wonderful. The resort itself is beautiful, very clean and well kept. We enjoyed a beautiful ocean front junior suite.

The only slightly negative things I might mention were 1) that the ocean front rooms were somewhat removed from the main lobby, theater, and most of the restaurants. A bit of a walk to those amenities. If you prefer the beach front, then it's a small sacrifice. Secondly, I think the beach front wait service could be a bit improved. Not many wait staff available on the beach front on most days

Highly recommend this resort even the entertainment was quite nice. (Do keep in mind, this is not Las Vegas entertainment). Full range of meal options and quality food choices with friendly service everywhere. I would definitely consider a return trip.

“Loved the Majestic!!!”

We had a wonderful time at the Majestic!! 24 of us went to attend my daughter's wedding there. Larissa did a great job of getting us ready for the wedding, and the wedding itself was beautiful! How could it not be with such a glorious, tropical setting. They were married on the beach and it was perfect! I was a little disappointed that they did not get a room upgrade, given that we had paid for the wedding package. All of the rooms were lovely , however! Thanks to Denny who took very good care of us on the beach!! Denny, you're the man!! Also, Victor was an awesome bartender and was always ready with our favorite beverage and a big smile!! Food was great!! We had some of everything and no complaints!! The animation crew were incredible, to have half of their energy!! The pool was positively awesome. We were told that the resort was full, but we never felt crowded, and we never had to wait for anything!! Overall we had a great time and would go back to the Majestic in a minute. Several of the people in our party have travelled to many other all inclusive resorts, and they overwhelmingly felt that this was a wonderful destination for a very reasonable price.

“No question... Go with majestic colonial”

Majestic Colonial Punta Cana

Where do i begin? This hotel was extremely beautiful. I loved this hotel. I wish i could have stayed- not necissarily just because our trip was all inclusive and we could drink and eat all day, and the rooms where outrageous, and we got these chocolate bars in our room everyday... but mainly because the staff was so nice. The majestics staff was like no other people you will ever meet. They will bend over backwards for you. Only the most anal, angry person who will never be happy could be dissatisfied with the staff. I do suggest that you learn some spanish though, if you havent already. Most of all, it sounds stupid but I reall miss the people. Bring plenty money to tip those people. Americans have already been blessed with so much, it really wouldnt hurt to bless those people. Make sure you meet Walter and Fransisco of the animation team. (Walter will definately make you laugh and Jenny the restaunt host, and Peola Gabriela, Kenya, and Janet at the front desk. like (Janet, the first day i met her i told her i liked the banana clip she had in her hair and youll notice alot of girls in the d.r. wear them. A couple days later, she called me in my room to come down and get some she had gotten for me as a souvenier) And there was a young light-skinned girl in like the second to last gift shop at the end of the strip in the resort- very friendly. These people will really make your day. My brother also wanted me to mention Micher and Felit at the bar. (of course it would be at the bar). I definately want to go back. I hope more people get the chance to go and definately go to the Majestic... and don't forget to bring whatever you can to bless these people as equally as they will you...
oh, and when an agent comes to book tours, don't miss the bus tour- its the whole reason you go to the D.R.
oh, and you can snorkel on the beach and or pay one of the boats on the beach to take you out for only 20 dollars and go snorkeling somewher else. so bring a snorkel.
The disco goes off at night...

THE END.

    • Liked — there was so much fun to be had- EVERYWHERE all day!
    • Disliked — the bed felt a little wet after it was cleaned. i guess because of some kind of cleaner they may have sprayed.
