“More Than a Dream Wedding and Vacation”

Sunset at the Palms

Jul 17, 2008
4/4 found this review helpful

Let me just say that our wedding and vacation at Sunset at the Palms was more than we could have ever wished for! We were there for 7 nights (June 25-July 2) and immediately fell in love with the resort. The staff was more than ready to accommodate our 50 guests ranging from ages 8-85. When our bus pulled-in, they were waiting for us with cold cloths and drinks to welcome us.

GROUNDS - The grounds were incredible. This is the only hotel where I have stayed that actually looks better than the pictures! We felt like we were staying in the jungle in our tree-house, and the sounds of nature at night put me right to sleep. I liked having the beach across the street because the only people on the property were guests and it felt very private and intimate.

WEATHER – It rained just about every day for about 10 minutes and then the sun came out again. On our wedding day it rained for about 2 hours. It was very pleasant in the evenings and during the day we were always in the ocean. We were outside all night and were not hot at all. The bugs weren’t too bad…a couple bites here and there.

STAFF - I could not imagine a more caring, accommodating staff. Let me give you a quick idea of how attentive they are. One morning at breakfast I was unconsciously scratching a little bite on my elbow and a member of the staff suddenly appeared, equipped with anti-itch cream that she began to rub in for me. THEN she asked what my room number was and there was a little bottle of cream on our desk later on! Gardeners Omar and Drake gave us coconuts to drink :).

FOOD - The food was wonderful. We LOVED the buffet—wide variety of tasty food. The omlet station was a nice surprise. We ate at the Lotus Leaf twice in addition to our reception. They had perfect portions of food and all of the meals were quite enjoyable.

WEDDING - On to the wedding….it was more than a dream wedding! I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect and I was blown away. Charm was so wonderful and went out of her way to make it really special. We took all of our guests on a private Sunset Cruise on a huge catamaran the night before our wedding and everyone had SUCH a good time! We snorkeled, swam in a cave, stopped in front of Rick's Cafe, and took advantage of the water-slide on board. The beach was set up beautifully for the ceremony and definitely exceeded our expectations. Charm and her staff made the wedding a priority and it was evident that they took time and thought in arranging everything. The weather couldn’t have been better with the ocean washing up on shore right behind us. We chose the most expensive ceremony package, which included a guitarist with a very soothing voice and cold cloths and chilled water for the guests. My flowers were lovely. We purchased 4 tropical arrangements instead of using their arch because my husband is so tall. We had a private reception in the air-conditioned restaurant called the Lotus Leaf. I couldn’t believe it when I saw how amazing it looked! The food was delicious, as always at this resort. We had a steel band play, which was a great way to add to the festivities. Our ceremony package came with some prints from the photographer contracted through the resort (Lasting Impressions), but we also decided to hire an outside photographer because pictures were our priority. His name is Michael Chen and he is based in Montego Bay. We were thrilled with what we have seen so far of his photos (he isn’t finished editing yet). The resort photographer’s pictures turned-out well and we were satisfied with their service. Lasting Impressions also did a video for us, which we are so happy to have. Do not hesitate to get married at Sunset!
When we left Sunset, we went to Sandals Royal Caribbean in Montego Bay to get a taste of that part of Jamaica. It didn’t even come close to comparing! We had a good time at Sandals, but missed the intimate size of Sunset, the amazing staff, the laid-back attitude, and the authenticity. Sunset at the Palms is such a special resort that we will strongly consider returning to for an anniversary! Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like to see more pictures or our video!

“Chillax to the Max at SATP”

We just returned last week from a 6 day stay at SATP. This was our third trip to Jamaica. Previous stays include The Rockhouse and Riu (in Ochie).

SATP was total relaxation. Period. In our experience, the staff was attentive, polite, and overall delightful. The bartenders were great, and knew just what we liked.

The beach provided shade, sun, jerk chicken, and Red Stripe--necessary elements for a Jamaican vacation.

The rooms were nice and always clean. The balcony is covered, so even in those afternoon showers you can sit and read.

About those tree frogs.... they are lovely to listen to every night.

We did not find the bugs at SATP to be any more or less than on previous trips. We brought spray and a bug coil for the room as everyone suggested and it was fun.

The manager's party on Tuesday at the martini bar was a treat. The cocktails (top shelf) were fab, as were the appetizers. The live pianist was a nice touch.

Overall a great place to sit and kick back.

We did do the snorkel tour next to SATP. The tour was 2+ hours and only $15 well worth it!! The craft market (s) next door are also a treat.

I would not hesitate to go back.

My husband and I always knew we wanted a destination wedding and after meeting with a travel agent we narrowed it down to Jamaica. Charm, the wedding planner was great! She met all of our needs/wants for the wedding. I had no idea what eveyrthing was going to look like until the day we arrived. We have never been anywhere tropical before and this place blew our minds away. Our wedding day turned out amazing. We went to another resort in Mexico this year but after being there it was nothing compared to here. There were 20 people that came from Canada for our wedding and we couldn't have been happier. Our very close friends have also gone other places and they still couldn't compare where they were to Jamaica. I am going to post some of our pictures on here so everyone can see and enjoy. We will be back next year for sure! Don't know if we could ever go anywhere else that's for sure! Jamaica was the best place, everyone is so laid back and there are no worries about anything. You are treated like kings and queens while here. Can't wait to go back!!!!

Sunset at the Palms

Came here last year for our honeymoon and fell in love with the place so had to bring the 2 girls this year even though there is not a lot for them to do. They loved the place and the friends they made..
Many thank you to everyone from all around the world who made our daughters Farrah and Harley have a fantastic holiday by spending time to talk to them when we were not around. The real beauty about this resort is when my wife and I are relaxing by the sea the kids can play in and around the pool with no worries.

Everything else has been said before.

Fantastic Staff
Fantastic Food
Fantastic Drinks
Fantastic Rooms
Fantastic Beach

Excuse my spelling of names but Dewayne, Greg, Omar, leonne, Jermaine, O'neil, Kenroy, All the reception team, Head chef and Andrew the manager make this place what it is.

As a returning guest had a 5 course meal around the pool with a lovely couple from just outside Glasgow, Andrew, Barbie and a couple of staff from Sunset Beach and it was to die for. Jermaine was our waiter for the night. 5 star cuisine and service.

It was nice to security on the beach had tightened up and moved everyone on swiftly.

Enjoy Jamaica, Experience Negril and fall in love with Sunset at the Palms.

Ian, Simone, Harley, Farrah..

I am going to try and keep this as short as i can as i could go on and on about how much i loved my holiday here at sunset at the palms

The staff were all friendly and helpful, omar, garth esroy, 45, ian, carrot, kirk to name just a few, the pool was lovely and the swim up bar was great, the beach just a short walk across the road was fabulous with the beach bar and grill and the free non-motorised water sports, the grounds were immaculate with such beautiful flowers and trees, the rooms were so relaxing, the bed was huge and the massage shower was amazing, the food at the buffet was delicious and the food theme changed nightly, the entertainment at the night was also good, one act big mama was hilarious and she got everyone up dancing with her (very very funny)

The only thing i didnt enjoy about my holiday were the mosquito's (which unfortunately cant be helped) and the beach vendors always trying to sell something to you

My holiday at sunset at the palms really was amazing and i am already saving up to go back next year
