Some hotels in San Juan aren't "Family" friendly. They tend to cater more to Singles or Honeymooners. The Marriott San Juan Resort & Stellaris is definitely "Family" friendly. I was there with my 3 & 6 year olds. They absouletely loved the resort. Their favorite part (and mommy's) was the huge Children's Pool. Usually when I travel, the hotel's Children's Pool is so small you find yourself fighting with other parents to get a spot for your kid. But, this Resort's Children Pool is huge! So Moms/Dads, no worries. The Children's pool is also divided off from the deeper pool, where of course, the older kids and adults hang out. If you're like me, I'm always worried the younger kids will be harmed when the older kids are in the same pool. Again, not a problem here. The resort also has sand buckets, shovels, boardgames etc. for the kids to borrow for free. They're located at the towel hut. They also have books mom and dad can borrow, if you want to lay back and read.
It's true that the beach has dangerous waves for young children. But, my kids were content making sand castles and staying on the edge of the water when they wanted to get wet.
There is a Starbucks and Hagen Dazz right across the street. And a Dunkin Donuts/Baskin Robbins 2 blocks away. My kids of course loved getting donuts for breakfast and Mom and Dad loved the affordable breakfast.
There is also a Wendy's and Chili's not too far away. You can definitely walked there and back (not dangerous).
The rooms are beautiful. We stayed in the tower (15th floor) and had the city view. It was just fine for a family. Anyone with kids knows that an Ocean View room is lost on kids. They don't want to see the beach, they want to play on the beach. So save yourselfs some $ and booked the city view rooms that are on the higher floors. Nice view of the city at night.
Another nice perk, the local bus is down the block. So with .75cents you can get to downtown San Juan. My kids loved the adventure of riding the local bus. There were many tourist on the bus, so you'll fit right in and feel safe.
If its raining out, take a look in your room closet, there's a huge umbrella you can borrow. There's also cozy robes and slippers (for adults) Mom and Dad can slip into later.
If you're wondering what the Resort has for Adults? It has Plenty!!. The deeper pool with a Slide, the Swim up bar. The Salsa band each night. The great Bar and Casino and Restaurants.
The staff there were so so nice and professional too. That of course is a big plus.
You can't go wrong at the Marriott San Juan Resort and Stellaris Casino. We had a great time and hope to stay again during our next visit (hopefully next year).
