“Great landscaping/pool/resort, but you cannot walk anywhere.”

The hotel is just at the edge of the rain forest and on the ocean. The hotel's landscaping and pool are exceptional. The food and drink prices are too high. We learned via this website to stop at the grocery store/liquor/wine/beer/soda store before you get to the resort. This saved us most of the $5-$8 fee for a soda/wine/beer. The staff was most helpful. The food at the restaurants and buffet we found to be better than expected. The casino is small, but adequate. The room we had facing the pool was very nice and had a great balcony my wife and I enjoyed. The beach is a little darker than the east coast of the u.s.. Not much to see on the beach. Although this was a beautiful resort, we will probably stay stateside at Myrtle Beach, Wrightsville Beach, or Ocean City, Md. for our next vacation. Each of those locations or Florida have great resorts too for less money and can be driven to. The airfaire and the hassles of travelling are wearing me down.

“Beautiful Property, Poorly Managed”

We stayed at the Rio Mar over Memorial Day weekend (Friday - Wednesday). We arrived on Friday night around 11:00 and were told that there would be a 'minor inconvenience.' Since the hotel was apparently overbooked, we had to stay in the living room of a suite on a SOFA BED for 2 nights. The living room was closed off to the bedrooms, but we could hear everything on the other side of both doors. When we finally moved to our king room, we woke up with bites all over us the next day! As if the room had fleas in addition to the ants coming from the cracks in the walls! I called house keeping and they told us they were 'sorry for the inconvenience' and would change the bedding. They did not change the bedding. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Puerto Rico was beautiful and we will be going back, but NOT to the Rio Mar!!!

“underpromised, overdelivered”

I stayed from the 6th to the 8th of June along with my husband and my two toddlers, and I was sorry I did not stay longer. Yes, prices were inflated, mostly on dining, but the food was great and it was worth the amount of money, and there are other off-site dining options as well.

I booked a standard ocean view room, and upon check-in was immediately given an upgrade to an ocean suite and a cute, comfortable crib(no charge), for my baby daughter, which I appreciated. Surroundings were beautiful and well mantained, and rooms were clean(my husband loved the bed and worshipped the pillows).

As for the staff, the best so far. I felt like each time I was thinking about making requests of any kind, they read my mind and did as I pleased without me even asking...from the check-in clerk to the room maid, each one of them looked forward to our complete satisfaction.

Looking for tips??? Enroll in the ByRequest program;previous lodging is not required. Not only you get rewards on a long-term basis but also get instant benefits, i.e. I made an express check-in and check-out, was not charged for a fridge, and a ByRequest rep. called me daily looking for my needs. I am definitely considering going back, the resort itself is an outstanding Puertorican attraction!!

“Great get-away!”

Arranged a quick 5 day/4 nigh getaway to the Wyndham Rio Mar and it was a great vacation!

The resort is top-notch both inside and out. It is located roughly 35 minutes east of San Juan very close to the El Yunque National Rain Forest.

The staff was very friendly and accomodating and the food and drinks were quite good...although the resort prices (particularly for small stuff) were sometimes a bit steep.

The pool and beach were outstanding. I would recommend renting a car (if only for a couple of days) and buying basic stuff at local markets to stock your room. Took a day trip to the rain forest which was well worth the time. Take the opportunity to eat at the various local spots for dinner...they're outstanding! The food is great and the value is far beyond what you might experience onsite at the resort.

Enjoyed a morning full of spa treatments, which were all great...you get what you pay for!

“Best Vacation Ever”

Rio Mar Beach Resort & Spa, a Wyndham Grand Resort

My husband and I just got back from a vacation at this hotel. It was BEAUTIFUL. At first I was worried because some of the reviews were not very flattering, however, it was more than I ever expected. We had an ocean view room on the 2nd floor. It was a nice view. Each room has a table and chairs out on the balcony. The room was very nice and clean, granite counter tops in the bathroom and had a modern look. We have expensive taste and this hotel room was great. Noise was never a problem. The weather was around 85 degrees everyday. There were quite a few iquanas walking around which was scary at first, however, they quickly run away from you. You need to rent a car and don't do it from the hotel. I went on cheaptickets.com and rented a car. The hotel uses Avis but it is very expensive. It is $15.00 per day to park your car in the parking deck. Don't take the rain forest tour, drive it yourself. In addition, the shuttle from the airport was $30 per person each way, so you will save a lot of money renting the car. Do not eat at the resort. The restaurants are over priced. The breakfast buffet was $25 per person and $19 per person for continental. Dinner averaged between $30-$55 per person. However if you go off the resort there are plenty of restaurants and fast food chains (KFC, McDonald's, UNO"s, Chili's, TGI Fridays etc). There is even a Walmart nearby. The staff was very nice and courteous. Although I did not bring a child, it was very kid friendly. It had a playground, kid pool and lots of kid activities. The spa was expensive, approx. $140 per person for a massage. This hotel is right on the beach, there is an adult pool andw a regular pool. The casino is tiny and closes at 2pm on weekdays and 4pm on weekends. We went on a Sun-Thurs and the resort was quiet and not over crowded. If you like golf, be prepared to pay $120 green fees per person. San Juan is about 20mins away. The ride from the airport was about 20 mins if you take the toll road. Take the toll road, it is $1.50 and the quickest route to the hote. This hotel was very upscale and nice. It is away from the city, but the entire island is only 35miles wide and 135 miles long so everything is close. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
