“Green Policy means money to them - Discomfort to Guests”

Anabella Hotel

Jul 1, 2008

The Hotel is clean and would be fine to stay at if the weather is always 65 degrees. But we stayed one week ago when the temperature is over 100.

The Hotel has a green a policy which includes shutting off the inadequate air conditioner when they claen the room and then open the windows to let in all of the hot air.

We returned from Disneyland and found our room was as hot as the outside which was 108 degrees. Leaving the windows open only let in the hot air. The wall mounted air conditioner is not sufficient to cool down the room.

The Green policy makes no sense for two reasons.

1. While the AC was off while we were out for 6 hours we had to run it at full capacity the balance of the time we were in the room which clearlu used more energy than if they had simply left it on to keep our comfortable.

2. The Hotel is opening up themselves for liabilty as they change the safe condition I left the room in by opening the windows so that anyone can easily break in and steal anything you have left in the room.

I spoke with the Front Desk Supervisor and all she could say is that it was the owners policy and there was nothing she could do. She would not provide contact information for the ownership group.

We apologize for your recent experiences with us here at the Anabella. We are trying to go green as is everyone else for the enviorment however we understand that it could be a little confusing to some of our guests. We have the energy saver in place for all of our guests to have opportunity to shut off their A/C and any other lights they may happen to leave on when they leave the room for the day. This is no way a standard or a "policy" and we apologize if you were told that. This is up to the guest and thier preference. If you have any other suggestions or comments, please give us a call anytime at (714) 905-1050 Ext. 4223

“Wonderful hotel to stay!”

Anabella Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Edmonton
Jun 26, 2008

We stayed at the Anabella from May 28th to June 8th in a concierge room and it was wonderful. I was a little worried after reading some of the reviews on the website, but after staying there, I was extremely happy with our vacation.
When we arrived at noon on the day of our check in our room was not ready, so we decided to walk over to Downtown Disney for lunch. We went down Disneyland drive and cut throught the Grand Californian and it was a peaceful and short walk (about 15 mins with three children aged 2,4,and 7. This would be shorter if it was adults only).

When we came back to our hotel at 5:00pm our main floor room was ready. We requested a main floor room with a sofa bed and they gave us exactly as we wished. I loved the enclosed patio area to sit at at night and these are only availiable on the main floor. We also loved having the extra sofa bed since we had 3 children to accomodate. The king sized bed was wonderful and two of my children were able to fit in the double bed, with my third in the sofa bed. The rooms were a nice size and the grounds were well cared for. With respect to noise from other guests, I can say that yes we could hear when people were walking above us, but what do you expect when you stay at a hotel? It was not overly loud and did not disturb my sleeping children.

With the concierge room, we were able to get the continental breakfast every day and we loved that. I would go and pick it up every morning and bring it back to our room. Even on the day we went out to Goofy's kitchen for breakfast I still picked up our continental and put it in the fridge so that when we came back at the end of the day we had a snack of fresh fruit and muffins.

I cannot understand how people can complain about the long walk to Disney (about 15 minutes) when you are already walking around all day in Disney. I found the walk back to our hotel just fine with 3 small children in tow.

The staff were extremely friendly and very helpful whenever we had any questions. Everyone who worked there made a point of greeting me pleasantly when myself and my family would walk by.

The only advice I can provide is that, while the pool is very nice and large, it is not very accomodating for younger children. My 7 year old loved it, but it was too deep for my 2 and 4 year olds who cannot swim. They still enjoyed themselves on the steps of the pool and in the hot tub. If I can make a recomendation to the hotel, that if they were ever to make renovations to the pool area, they should consider putting in a shallow pool or a splash pad/sprinkler area for the small children.

Overall, we loved our stay at the Anabella hotel, and I cannot understand how people can complain so much about this hotel. Especially when you consider the price they charge for a night here, it is an extremely great quality and beautiful hotel.

I highly recommend this hotel!

“Overall good stay”

Anabella Hotel

4 of 5 stars
half moon bay
Jun 25, 2008

We had a good experience overall with no major problems. Upon request they moved us closer to our friends in the concierge building - Carmel. The rooms were nice & clean. Someone called every day to make sure everything was OK. I found the restaurant and the room service to be quite good and reasonable. All staff that I encountered were friendly except for maybe the gift shop people.
The walk to Disneyland was a little long for our kids ( 5 & 8 years old) and because it was the busy season sometimes the shuttle was full. That was tough in hot weather. Probably wouldn't be as bad if it was cooler weather.

“Avoid this overpriced Budget Hotel!”

Wow- where should I start....We booked a "mission suite" and were given a casitas suite. Not quite sure of the difference other than it cost $10 more per night. Upon check in the front desk employee sent us all the way to the far end of the hotel property to get out and walk around looking for a room that was directly across the courtyard from the lobby. The second day we stayed- we returned to the hotel at 4:30 to take a nap after a long day at Disney to find our room not yet cleaned. The maid was at the room next to us, so we had to settle with clean towels only so that we could nap and return to Disney as planned. I was not happy with all of the extra charges...Come on $10 to park? What extra amenity is there in your parking lot that there is a nightly fee? Gas is expensive enough. On Friday, after a long week at Disney, we decided to go swimming at the pool for an hour or two. The pool was disgustingly cloudy. When we got in it to swim, the water was slimy and you could write your name in the muck on the walls of the pool. So, I thought I'd try the spa...all I can say is bugs, bugs, and more bugs floating in the spa. We spent 15 minutes in the pool area after being grossed out by it's poor maintenance. It seems like the Anabella is nothing more than a cheap, budget hotel with an expensive price tag. It's difficult to get to (U-turns) Nothing is free...internet, continental breakfast, local calls, parking all have a surcharge...No microwave in the room! Next Disney trip will not include the Anabella! Funny that we were given $10 off your next stay coupon- Not valid on weekends, holidays, or peak seasons...WHEN else is there? Not surprising! A perfect example of what a rip-off the Anabella is! DO NOT STAY HERE!

Thanking for taking the time to write a reveiw of our hotel. We were very sadned to hear about your experience while you were with us. I would like to take the opportunity to let you know that we do not stop servicing rooms until 6p.m. I apologize if your room had not been cleaned prior to you arriving there. If you would have liked your room to be cleaned earlier, then as a suggestion, please contact our guest services to expedite your room. As we have stated before, we must charge for parking due to other non-guests parking with us and this has taken away more parking spaces for paying hotel guests so in order to identify between the two, we must track all vehicles who park with us. Most of the Anaheim Resort hotels do charge for parking per night. I would also like to inform you that we keep our pool and jacuzzi clean and up to standard on a daily basis. We have never received a complaint about the cleanliness of either one to date. I can reassure you our pool and jacuzzi are in great shape and very nice antyime! I apologize about that however, if we would have known about this, we definitely would have taken action as soon as possible. Again, we were sorry to hear about your time with and hopefully you will give us aother chance to change your opinion about us.

“Staff was nice. My room was.....not so much.”

I've read and have gotten a mixed bag of results about the Anabella. But I just had to stay there because I never judge a place without staying there.

Check in went fine, but my room wasn't ready when I arrived at 2:00, so the check in agent said that they would call me when the room was ready. My friends room was ready so we had lunch, then hung out at her place until 3:30 when I couldn't really wait any longer, as I had to get ready for a wedding. I called the front desk to find out the status of my room. "Yep, it's all ready!" explained the front desk clerk, almost as if it had been ready for a while. OK, where was my phone call?

I get to my room, and it's in the front building, but tucked way into the corner on the first floor. I had what appeared to be a housekeeper/groundsman lunch room or break room made from a converted hotel room on one side (or they were just hanging out in there, I don't quite know), and the housekeeper storage room across from my door. Needless to say, my morning was loud with housekeeper chatter right outside my door.

The toilet had to be flushed twice every single time. Unfortunately because of time constraints, I was unable to alert the manager. That and I really didn't discover this quirk until the morning of my stay.

The hvac never seemed to cool well. Granted it was the hottest weekend in SoCal this season, but I've been in Arizona with 119º temps outside and have never had hvac issues in hotel rooms.

The room was the smallest room I have ever stayed at. So small the chair was basically blocking access to the bathroom area!

And for all the "energy conservation" they are big on with electricity, they need to think about water too. My shower head was so strong, with so much water pressure, and no way to control water output, it felt like I was having paint sandblasted from my body!

Then in the morning, the housekeeper knocked at my door at about 9:30. I yelled "I'm still in here". She knocked again. "I'm still in here!!" She knocked again. I then walked to the door from the restroom and yelled "I'M STILL IN HERE!!!". She then left (there was no "Please do not disturb" sign I could put out). My other friends that were staying here had this same issue, only at 8:15am.

The room was very clean, the bed was comfortable as well and the amenities were nice. My friends room was a really nice room. And as I said, the staff were excellent (aside from the no phone call when the room was ready). But whatever you do, avoid room 6123 at all costs!

Thank you very much for taking the time to review our hotel on Tripadvisor. We are very sorry to hear about your experiences with us. I would like to inform you that our check in time is at 4pm and not 2pm. If you arrive earlier than 4pm and if we have a room ready for you at that time, we will check you in however we cannot guarentee the rooms unitl 4pm. Sometimes the rooms are cleaned a little earlier than 4pm and the process is to contact the guest however in this case the room was not ready until 3:59pm. I apologize about the room location. I wish it could have been a little different for you. We do have a storage room near that room however our employee break rooms and laundry facility is nowhere near that room you had stayed in. I would also like to take the time to apologize about your toilet problems. If you would have given a chance to fix it, I promise you we would have attended to that right away. We pride ourselves on our guest service and I wish you would have given us a chance to assist you in this manner. Again, thank you very much for your comments and I hope we can make this up next time.
