“Great Hotel in a Good Location”

Dream Bangkok

General:

I booked this hotel after reading reviews here on Tripadvisor. I was pleasantly surprised as this hotel is fantastic. We stayed in the junior suite room which was really spacious. We were there for 5 days in late May.

Location:

I found the location to be very convenient. I would recommend to quickly learn the BTS (skytrain)/MRT mass transit systems so your reliance on tuk tuks and taxis are minimal. The hotel is located on a small side street off of Sukumvit (Soi 15). It is in the middle between two BTS stops (Nana and Asok). We usually walked down tot he Nana station. There are a lot of restaurants and shops very close to the hotel on Sukumvit.

Room:

There were two big LCD TV's in the room, one in the bedroom the other in the living room. There was a DVD player in the room as well, didn't watch anything on it though as we were out of the room most of the time. The room itself was very well kept and clean. My only complaint would be that the bed was a little too on the firm side as most beds in Asia are. It certainly wasn't to the point where it was uncomfortable. The housekeeping service was very good and never breached the "do not disturb" status of my room.

Staff:

The front desk staff was very courteous, helpful and professional.

The bell boys have a walkie to summon taxis for you if needed.

Hotel amenities:

The hotel has a tour desk located at Dream 2 across the street from the original Dream. The tour desk can arrange private tours giving discounts on the number of people in your party. I took a tour to Ayutthaya via this tour desk, a bit pricey but I felt comfortable I would have a safe and pleasant experience which we did. It was 6400 baht for the two of us. A full day tour to Ayutthaya and the summer palace with thai buffet lunch.

The hotel has a Gym on the 10th floor, I didn't use it but I know they had one.

Tips:

Make sure you bring you key card folder with you with the address and map on the back as many taxi drivers didn't seem to know where this hotel was.

During rainy season some unscrupulous taxi drivers will try to jack up the fair. After I found this out I just waited out the rain and found a taxi after. The rains were almost daily but they were very short lived.

The taxi to/from the airport should be at most 250 baht including the 25 baht for the highway toll. The taxi driver I got at the airport to Dream charged me 600 baht. I found it best to insist on meter usage.

“Good Experience”

I found a great deal through Hotels.com for the Jr Suite at Dream for $120/nt. I read the reviews and decided to book it.

The hotel itself is about what you would expect from a boutique hotel experience. The Jr Suite room was nice. The living room area was large but the layout made it not very function. The bedroom was nice (bed was VERY hard) and bathroom was fantistic.

The location of the hotel was good. Only two blocks from Sukhumvit Road and a couple more blocks to the sky train.

Overall, very convenient hotel especially for the price.

“Suspicious at first but completely impressed”

Dream Bangkok

In short: loved the Dream - exceeded my expectations on every level. We had a standard room, and while a touch small it was perfectly fine for two people with gigantic suitcases and the bathroom size was perfect. As a little color, we last stayed at the Sheraton Grande on Sukhumvit (also great, but that was expected). Did not use the pool since we were running around most of the time so cannot comment on that. 5 mins walk to Asok skytrain and if you like going out, there are tons of spots in the area - Q Bar, Bed Supperclub, and Scratch Dog if you want a real Thai experience. Also a short hop to all the megamalls of BKK.

Don't get turned off by the optional blue lights and somewhat kitschy decor, which actually looks pretty cool in person despite some of the traveler pics that are posted (these initially put me off big time). The Dream was extremely nice, comfortable and clean. Despite some other postings, the beds were king-sized and super comfy - and I am extremely particular about mattress quality both at home and on the road (so midrange hotels in Europe are basically a nightmare for me...). The staff was genuinely very friendly, always cheery and willing to help at all times.

For the price we paid (80USD/night inc. tax+svc no breakfast), the Dream was an amazing value. Do not hesitate to book here. I initially wanted to stay at the Conrad but figured I should save that for a business trip and I have absolutely no regrets.

“Really Liked Dream, Loved Bangkok”

Dream Bangkok

4 of 5 stars
In transit

We stayed at the Dream hotel for the first 3 nights of our honeymoon back in February 2008. It was a great place to stay. We had researched it for weeks and finally narrowed it down based on quality and location. It's a cool little hotel. The Soi's in Bangkok are a bit strange, a lot like alley ways that you wouldn't venture down in another city. However we felt totally safe in Bangkok. We got a taxi from the airport cos we'd had long flights and didn't mind that we were ripped off at 800 bhat (16 euro), but you could get cheaper.

The soi (street) that Dream is on is near the end of the popular soi's but nicely placed away from the noise and the hussle. The staff were very efficent and friendly. They organised taxies and gave any advice they could. When we got to our 1st room it was right beside the lift and just above the bar. After 30 hours of travel this wasn't ideal, but we were moved to the top floor and end of the hallway far away from the lift within 5 minutes. No problems. The bar is nice, but not very busy. The breakfast is good. Didn't use their roof top pool / bar on Dream2 but it looked good.

The room was almost perfect only loosing a fraction of a point for the smallest amount of neglegence in the bathroom and because our complimentry toiletries were never replaced. The bed was very comfortable, the blue light was a lovely novelty, felt like you were on hols! Wide screen tv was good late at night when you were still buzzing from the excitement of the city. Don't turn it up too loud tho. Anyway, suffice to say, we were very happy all round.

Btw, right at the beginning of the soi there's a little eatery (for want of a better name) with no sign that does pretty good and very cheap thai food. Also, quite a bit along at the top of I think soi 6 there's a corner bar which is a good people watching spot. Inside & down stairs at this bar there's a slightly dodgy looking but excellent little eatery. Take a chance and give it a shot. The food was great.

We're were travelling on and we also stayed in the D2 Chiang Mai hotel in Chiang Mai after this, best hotel I've ever stayed in due to absolutely 10 out of 10 for service and qulity to detail, and I'm fussy.

Also went on to Nora Beach Hotel in Koh Samui island. Fantastic place if you choose the pricey Nora Ocean Pool Villa. Not sure if I'd stay in one of the bungalows as I seem to attract mozzies and they're situated in a mini manufactured jungle.

By the way, there's a great indian restaurant near by Dream, go up the soi, out on the main street, across the road and it's 1 floor up on a street corner facing you on the left. Look up. I think it's called India Today. Worth checking out. They we're newish and trying very hard. Had a great view, lovely drinks and "AIR CON" something you'll appreciate after a few nights in the night time heat. A good bar around Soi 6 was called something like Gullivers. Again good cold beer and a good spot to watch life going on around you. Btw, Q Bar wasn't worth the effort, but I think it was a Monday night when we went. Beware, they have a basic dress code too. No sandles and no shorts.

All in all, Bangkok is fantastic. A great place to go. My wife & I could have stayed another week just touring around. If you're going on to a quieter destination in Tahiland after this such as Chiang Mai, save the Tuktuks until then as the street fumes in Bangkok make it a lot less pleasent, although still a very exciting way to travel. And make sure you take a chance and eat from the street vendors with the bbq's strapped to their bikes. Real street food.

This hotel was really nice, a group of 6 of us stayed there for 2 nights at the end of April and the staff were really helpful and very pleasant, although I did hear that they were amazed at how late we did stay out partying!! wouldn't hesitate to recommend anyone to stay at the hotel. The prices of drinks etc were a little more expensive than a bar but you would expect that of a hotel. The hotel itself is down a bit of a dingy backstreet which did tend to smell of sewers but once you get past that the hotel was delightful!!
