Overall we were happy with our stay, though it wasn't without a few niggles.
We stayed en route to Sydney and New Zealand, for two nights. I booked when it was still Raffles the Plaza. Overall it worked out well for us at the rate we paid.
Good:
- upgraded due to hotel being busy and having booked early. So in North Tower, but on executive floor. We weren't allowed to use the executive lounge, but with our 11 year old so with us, this was fine.
- room large, comfortable & clean. Great views from the high floor - over the Esplanade, part of the Padang and the city.
- Location was great for us - across from Raffles (we had booked afternoon tea) and up from Suntec Mall where we did the Hippo tour from. Also walkable to National musuem.
- Bell "boy" was very sweet to our son.
Could have been better:
- the room rate on check-in was more than on my reservation. After quite a while conferring with management, the original rate was confirmed.
- there was no bed for our 11 year old, despite several emails after the initial booking to correct where this had got lost. On phoning reception they said that would be SIN $30 / night additional cost. When I'd returned to reception to show them my emails, again the original rate was finally agreed.
- we went out to get food, but the bed wasn't there when we returned. In all, it probably took 3-4 hours for the bed to show up. After an overnight flight from London we finally got the bed at about 2300, having put our son to sleep in our bed.
Singapore in general we really enjoyed. We would recommend:
- Afternoon tea in the Tiffin room at Raffles. There were a couple of tour groups, but they sensitively sat smaller parties in a slightly separate area, which was nice. You are also encouraged to leave by the main lobby, which was a nice touch. Do book ahead though - we booked ages in advance (it was a Saturday). There definitely was no getting in on the day.
- Night Safari
- National Museum, including History of Singapore wing.
