We needed a hotel close to the Amtrak station for a brief stay in LA and Omni at California Plaza fitted the bill. The lobby was not over impressive and with check-in at the rear beyond the stair case. No one offered any help with bags but we were okay with that.

The room was welcoming after a long flight with an attractive view from the window. The bathroom was especially nice, very spacious and well designed. The toiletries and towels were top quality. The bedroom was reasonably spacious with a very comfortable easy chair and ottoman - only for one per though. There was a big wardrobe but the lighting was poor when trying to find your garments in it.

A walk around the Bunker Hill area in the early evening dusk felt quite safe. We had dinner from the room service menu and it was attractively served although not over tasty.

We used the hotel town car next morning and received excellent service. We would recommend this hotel for anyone who is looking for accommodation in that area of LA.

“Good hotel, friendly helpful staff”

Good hotel in downtown LA, room was spacious and clean and met all our needs. However, I do find it hard to believe that this is the number 1 hotel in LA as I have stayed in nicer properties in past.

Ruben the barman made our stay - I must recommend his lemon frop cocktails...

“Good business hotel in downtown”

Omni Los Angeles at California Plaza

I enjoyed my stay here. It had all the amenities you'd expect from a good quality business hotel...
Big clean spacious rooms, wifi internet access, big TV, good bar and restaurant (if a little expensive), friendly staff, good maid service, great hot and cold breakfast selection (with made-to-order omlette available).

It's located on a quiet street, felt safe enough walking around, about 5 minutes from a metro stop (pershing square). Short walk from some decent downtown bars and restaurants (particularly recommend the rooftop bar at the Standard Hotel, best city skyline view in LA). There was a small shopping area at the bottom of the hotel.

Only downside was parking was a bit expensive at $30/day, as was the hotel bar.

I'd recommend signing up to the Omni Select Guest programme prior to staying. Its free to sign up and gets you free wifi access plus 2 free drinks and newspapers delivered to your room every morning.

We stayed in the Omni for the first few nights of our honeymoon and the staff were so helpful. My new husband had called in advance and we had champagne and few special extras ready when we arrived which was lovely.
I would recommend for the service alone but the room was clean and spacious too.

“Great Hotel!”

Omni Los Angeles at California Plaza

4 of 5 stars

May 25, 2008

My 8 year old and I are on a "alone" getaway to see Wicked in LA. The Omni got good reviews here, so I booked it. The "club level" room we got is $219 per night, cheaper than some of the regular rooms. I found the rate online, but called to confirm the ammenities. Join the frequent guest program for extra perks. Perks of the club level room are a room on the top (17th) floor (with key access to the floor), complementary breakfast (french toast, bacon, lox and bagels, fruit, etc etc), and complementary cocktail hour from 5-8 (alcohol, sodas, snacks). There was so much at the cocktail hour that it was dinner for us! Hotel ammenities: Small outdoor pool (too cold outside for us to go in but the pool was warm), nice workout room, COMFY beds, windows that open. When we checked in we were given a backpack of toys for my daughter. All good. Oh, and our rate included complementary valet parking (normally $30 per night).

The only problem was that when we called the front desk last night at 9PM to ask about the circling helicopter a couple blocks away, we were informed that it was due to a movie being filmed (500 Days of Summer was being filmed in the park right outside the hotel during the day). Luckily, we decided not to go check it out, because it was actually the POLICE looking for a SNIPER shooting from another hotel into the street. I had a little chat with the front desk manager about this. She didn't seem to grasp the severity of the mistake. I suspect that as long as things go smoothly, this is a great hotel. And, except for the idiot at the front desk, things went very smoothly. The staff are not the brightest bulbs on the string, but they are very friendly.

I would stay here again for sure, especially with the kids! I just wouldn't ask anyone here for advice.
