Just back from four nights stay at the Azul Key West. I chose the hotel based on research from TripAdvisor.com. My wife and I were celebrating our first anniversary and our first visit to Key West.

I contacted Tracy two days before we arrived to arrange our dinner our first night. I gave her simple instructions: outdoor seafood in clear view of the fireworks (it was July 4). We arrived in time to get a shower and dressed for our dinner. The night was magical! She had booked a table at the Strip House at the Reach Resort, sister property to the Casa Marina Resort. We had a bottle of wine and a huge fresh seafood "plateau" as an appetizer. Even though we ordered entrees, we started eating our appetizer, left our table to get a better view of the fireworks, and came back, we discovered we were full. The waiter canceled our entrees without a blink. Excellent evening!

A few things about the property, because it definitely is not for everyone: do not book the Aria suite if you are not spry! It is up two narrow spiral staircases! It was not a problem for my wife and I, but could be a huge issue for people who are not physically fit. (there are other rooms that would suffice nicely). I had read one review that complained about the bathroom and I can see if that you are a large or even tall person you might feel cramped. My wife and I saw it as quaint. We blew a fuse with our hairdryer (the house is old!) but Dominic told me by phone where to find the fuse box and all was well again.

So, if you realize you are not going to the Westin resort with a huge marble bathroom and lots of noisy neighbors, keeping in mind the personal touches that abound (linens, pool towels, aveda products), this Hotel is as fabulous as everyone else here has said.

Highlights: the breakfast is a work of art and delicious, location is close enough to walk but far enough for peace and quiet, pool is nice and refreshing, this place is a wonderful way to visit Key West!
Thanks Dominic!

Azul Key West

Staying at the Azul was as serene & enlightening as the beautiful sunsets of Key West. It was quaintly located 4-5 blocks off of hustle and bustle of Duval Street.

Our room was on the corner of the 'Pool Deck' overlooking their very well kept Summer heated pool. Once we walked into our room, we observed a beautiful picture canvas above our Queen sized bed and welcomes you with colorful sea glass that's placed on the bed. Although the room isn't as big as your typical "holiday inn" bedroom, it was a perfect size for us. Although, it is missing some room essentials like an Iron, closet space, & a clock, this isn't really a decision matter for us.

We are healthy eaters, so their continental breakfast was perfect. They served us with fresh cut strawberries, papaya, watermelons, melons, etc., also served some cereals, toasts, and hard-boiled eggs. It was a healthy well balanced breakfast.

We tried three of the recommended restaurants by Dominic, and we enjoyed 'NINE ONE FIVE' the best! Recommended meals: Appetizers: Tuna Dome & Calamari. Main Course Thai Style Whole Fish!

However, the other restaurant we tried, we were quite disappointed. The food was very bland. BlueHeaven & El Meson de PePe. Definitely not worth it.

The search for the best Key West food can only really be found in their own local spot, the local way on a scooter. After driving around the whole island, which is only 3 miles around, we found the best seafood Key West has to offer at the 'Half Shell Raw Bar.'

And for the Sunbather lover, I wouldn't recommend going to the Fort Zachary Rocky Beach, because that's just what it is, a rocky beach and there's an admission fee, But would recommend you to go there to watch the Sunset. Most people went to Mallory Square to watch the sunset, but you can't really enjoy the moment, with too much crowd and possible pick pocketters.

We had read some of the good reviews this hotel had received and had reasonable expectations.

The front desk beach blonde was friendly enough when we arrived – but curiously, she kept avoiding to show us the room that was available. She did show us a picture of it (taken with a wide angle lens) from their brochure. I paid for the room and looked forward to some rest after the long drive from Miami.

The room we paid $199 for was basically a shoebox. Nicely decorated, but ridiculously small. We were too tired to complain, but I for one cannot recommend staying in that room at the Azul. Make sure to ask how many square feet (or metres) the room is prior to booking. And if your a walk-in guest, always check the room out first. Insist if you must!

Management Response

This guest’s opening epithet is both offensive and inappropriate which perhaps offers a clue to his persona. He was “tired,” he liked “nothing” and couldn’t be bothered to walk 25 feet to reception and ask to see another room. Four larger options were available that evening. He opted for the smallest and least expensive which thousands of previous guests have chosen and had a fabulous stay.
We are very proud of our staff at Azul Key West who willingly show rooms to potential guests whether walking-in or pre-confirmed. Furthermore, every guest is personally checked into their room after being shown around the property. All of our staff are enthusiastic, courteous and willing to please. Their day is dedicated to ensuring guest’s enjoy their Key West vacation and return to Azul on their next visit.

“Loved this B&B!!”

Azul Key West

My husband and I stayed in this adults only B&B in June 2008. This is a beautifully restored historic house in the historic district of Key West. It is in a good location, within easy walking distance of the main tourist areas. Although some guides say that it is on a main road, as main roads go, it really is pretty quiet and we did not notice any traffic noise. It is certainly a much quieter street than some of the ones where all the main tourist action is located.

The best description of the rooms is "minimalist chic" - dark wood flooring, dark wood furniture, (high quality) white bed linen. A splash of colour is provided by the sea glass scattered on the bed when you check in. Very nice marble bathroom with Aveda products, which is a very nice touch.

Having experienced some fairly appalling breakfasts in the USA, breakfast here is a real treat. Good selection of fresh fruit, juice, tea, coffee, toast, cereal and eggs.

Parking is included free of charge.

The only criticism is that there are no safe storage facilities for guests to use which means you eitheer have to take all valuables with you or leave them in the room. However, the staff, who are extremely friendly and attentive, seem utterly trustworthy. There are no phones in guest rooms, which may bother some people although it didn't make any difference to us.

We would definitely choose to stay here again if we go to Key West again. The owners also have a hotel in Key Largo.

“sorry this has taken so long”

Me and my partner stayed at the Azul in December for ten days. I can only apologise to Dominic and Sophia that it has taken me this long to write this review.
We had traveled from at Scotland and did not arrive at the hotel untill late in the evening, our welcome from Dominic was supreme and I have never felt more at home in a hotel before. The room was spotlessly clean and had everything that we desired including the elemis products.
The location is perfect for exploring Duval Street and the rest of Key West, every recommendation that was offered to us by Dominic and the brilliant Sophia fitted our needs perfectly. We felt as if we were part of their families.
The breakfast at the Azul was excellant and due to the hot weather we really apprecited the lighter style i.e. fresh fruit, youghurt etc.
We stayed at the hotel for ten days which might seem a long time to be in Key West, but I can honestly say that I have never had a better holiday in a better hotel.
Once again I can only thank dominic and Sophia for their supreme hospitality and cannot wait to return to this gem of an establishment.
