This facility really lived up to its lofty reputation on our recent stay in New Orleans for Jazz Fest. Although we didn't get a bargain because of the influx of tourists for the music event (roughly $200/night plus tax on the hotel website booking), I felt we came close to getting every pennies worth of luxury and service.
All the details of the stay were either above average or excellent. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful from the check-in to the concierge to housekeeping. They went out of their way to make our stay relaxing and fulfilling.
Our room was upgraded upon check-in, probably because we paid rack rate and I am a frequent Intercontinental guest around the world. We had 1109 and it was equipped with a nice balcony with a overlook of the quiet alcove. The bed was really top quality with a nice feather bed and ample pillows. The curtains closed to make the room totally black and allowed us extra rest after a night of partying. The decor was smart and the room spotlessly clean.
Although not spacious, it was generous enough and the bathroom was full marble and the towels fluffy.
For location, it is really ideal. The street car passes directly in front of the complex and can get you uptown for $1.25. The French Quarter is a few block walk along safe streets even at night. Mother's, the famous greasy spoon, is a few blocks toward the river and they can satisfy any hunger you might conjur up.
We didn't make use of the restaurants or bars in the hotel, but did catch a few rifts of the nightly music as we filtered back into the nightlife of the city when we passed the lobby. We, also, didn't check out the gym or the pool. Too much partying, I suppose, to pretend to work out. Isn't that the way it always ends up on trips to this city?
The city has many options of hotels in this luxury category and most are fairly good bets. The Intercontinental, albeit pricey, was equal to any high end hotel I have stayed at in New Orleans. If you can get a discounted rate, you deal will be even better.
